3 Things You Didn't Know About Balloons

Updated: Oct 1, 2019

It's Monday night.. I just finished going through all the messages and emails we got this past weekend and now I'm currently drinking a hot double double from Timmies and thinking of what Just Cuz Balloon's first blog post should be. I thought it would be great to share 3 things that not even Amy or I knew about balloons before we started.

LATEX BALLOONS ARE BIODEGRADABLE

Our expenses could be a lot smaller, however we believe in quality work! That's why we use Qualatex balloons - mainly for our latex creations. We feel and see the difference between brands and one great thing about our balloons is that they are biodegradable and environmentally friendly. They are natural latex - not plastic! They decompose as fast as an oak leaf can from your backyard. But I must warn you - we still DO NOT recommend releasing balloons. As eco-friendly as they are, they can cause dangerous power outages and can kill animals on their way down. So please, don't be that person!

BALLOONS DON'T COME IN EVERY COLOUR/SHADE

We get this question all the time from people all over the world - "What's that colour called?". Well balloons do not come in every colour that you see on Instagram or Pinterest. There are standard colours like grey, blush or teal, for example. But good quality balloons do not come in colours like pastel coral or dusty blue. There's a technique to create custom colours and the possibilities are endless. Balloon professionals have to spend time to do lots of research to create custom colours. With that being said, a lot of trial and error is needed as pictures do not always tell us the true colour since filters can be applied to images and the colour can look completely different than what it looks like in real life. We always like to mention this to our clients if they have specific colours in mind.

WHEN POPPED, THEY'RE A MINI SONIC BOMB

We've all been there - a balloon goes POP and we have mini heart attacks. But have you ever heard a 36" jumbo pop? As you're standing right next to it? Probably not and if you're a nervous person like me, you probably don't ever want to experience that.. or if you're up for it, all the power to ya! But I bet you didn't know that when balloons are popped, they make the noise of a sonic BOOM! When a hole is made in a balloon, it starts to grow at almost the speed of sound in rubber which is greater than the speed of sound in the air which makes a boom.

So there you have it - 3 things you probably didn't know about balloons. Amy and I are going to be pretty active on this blog but we want to know from you..
